Transit Should Stay in Wisconsin’s Transportation Fund

This statement focuses on the idea, expressed in Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s (WisDOT’s) recent 2015-2017 Budget Proposal, that state level funds for transit that have traditionally come out of the Transportation Fund instead should come out of the General Fund. Consistent with the first item of our platform, we believe that transit should stay an integral and non-revocable component of the state’s Transportation Fund.   continue reading

Transit is Better for Jobs

This statement debunks the commonly-held myth that funding highway construction is so good for generating jobs that it is worth borrowing hundreds of millions of dollars to do so. Although Wisconsin’s employment situation might be best off with a balanced use of transportation dollars, allocating a majority of transportation funds to public transportation rather than road construction, particularly state highway construction, could be best from a “job creation” point of view. continue reading
